The Articles of Confederation
failed for many different reasons. First
of all there was not real government. The government was a "firm league of
friendship." (Article III) A firm
league of friendship is not going to hold together a group of mostly independent
governments with differing rules. (Article II)
The few rules that government did have at that point could not be
enforced because the government did not have any kind of military. Back then all the government could do is make
treaties and declare war. (Article VI
& IX) Our government needed more power in order to stay in control of the
states. Each state had only one
controlling vote in the government. This
poorly represented all the people within that state. (Article V) The states were too independent and laws in
each state differed by a lot which could confuse traveling people. Finally, the last reason the government
failed is because it could not tax its citizens. This caused the government to lack the money
needed to run. (Article VIII) The Articles of Confederation failed because it had a weak government.
Great post! I think you should become a journalist forget school you are to good at righting this stuff. I do agree with all points especially about the point of firm league of friendship.
